Overview
P2S Engineering was responsible for the design of a 630kW Photovoltaics (PV) system located on a car port structure in parking lot #6 at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, California. The project involved providing multiple arrays of PV panels, combiner boxes, DC disconnect switches, two 375kw inverters and interfacing with the campus 4.16kV electrical distribution system.
Challenge
The project involved connecting the PV system to an existing DWP system and involved provision of net metering, coordination with the local utility company to tie in to its system and maximizing the efficiency of the PV system.
Action
P2S was responsible for providing engineering and electrical design for the PV system. Key elements of the system design included developing the layout of the PV farm, the electrical equipment design and layout and the single-line interconnection diagram.
Wiring details of the project included connecting to existing switchboards, performing load calculations and ptimizing tilt angle of the photovoltaics to maximize kilowatt-hour production.
Results
The successful completion of the carport PV farm has contributed to reducing campus operating costs and a greenhouse gas emissions reduction of approximately 32-tons. The project was completed on time and within budget.
