LONG BEACH, Calif. (October 20, 2010) — The Long Beach Green Business Council today elected Kent Peterson as its first president.
The Long Beach Green Business Council promotes sustainable business practices and advocates business development opportunities for companies that produce green products or provide green services. It also facilitates business to business relationships and assists in green technology incubation and acceleration. The council is also committed to encourage better alignment between private and public agencies which have a policy commitment to environmental sustainability and stewardship.
Peterson is co-founder, vice president and chief engineer at Long Beach-based P2S Engineering. With over 25 years of experience working in consulting engineering and building commissioning, Peterson has been a successful change agent in the industry. His leadership and design work has earned him numerous awards for high-visibility projects including ultra-energy-efficient central plants, high-performance green buildings, and innovative energy-efficiency strategies.
“I look forward to continuing the council’s commitment and promoting its mission to business and residents in the Long Beach community,” said Peterson.
Peterson is past president of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers), an active 50,000-member renowned international professional association. He also served as Chair of ASHRAE/USGBC/IES Standard 189.1 – Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings, which serves as the basis for new green building codes. Peterson’s leadership in improving building sustainability, energy efficiency and industry best practices has been recognized by governments, associations and industry professionals worldwide where he has delivered presentations and authored white papers and articles.
